National Center for Civil and Human Rights
After many years of successful operations, the National Center for Civil and Human Rights (the Center) is expanding to further its mission to promote and protect rights and become a hub for conversations and engagement around protecting human dignity. In 2019, DaVinci Development was selected by the Center as development manager to oversee the addition of two new wings and enhancements and renovations of the Center’s original exhibit spaces. The team has been tasked with budget and schedule development and management, and ensuring programming requirements, objectives, and priorities align with the Center’s fundraising goals. The expansion and improvements program are designed to bring the center to a new total of 70,000+ square feet, including new exhibits and educational space, and DaVinci Development is managing all aspects of the project from design through construction and final closeout. The team is responsible for the extensive coordination of architects, exhibit designers, artists, media specialists, fabricators, general contractors, and other project consultants.
DaVinci Development team members John Goff and David Scott also worked on the development of the original facility, initially conceived as a $124M, 92,000 square foot project.* Initial project planning began during the Great Recession of the mid-2000s and plans were redesigned three times to respond to changing economics. DaVinci Development is proud to have been a part of this significant and iconic project and honored to have been able to partner with the late architect Phil Freelon. The original facility opened in 2014. The DaVinci Development team remains steadfast in its commitment to the Center as Development Managers for the new expansion project.
