A DaVinci Development executive led the team as master planner and developer for the Gateway Village project *. The team partnered with Bank of America to revitalize the historic Third Ward in Charlotte, which had deteriorated over the years as residents migrated to newer areas of the city. The first block of the Gateway Village project was set aside for parking, residential, and retail uses. The challenge was to build an 1,800-car pre-cast parking deck of eight stories, surrounded by 250 residential units (executed by three other developers), and provide a walkable environment for the tenants of the office blocks. The eastern edge was bound by Norfolk Southern Rail tracks and had the most prominent view of the whole Gateway Development from Uptown Charlotte.

Working hand-in-hand with eight architectural firms and four general contractors, the team developed 1.2 million sq. ft. of high-tech office space and 125,000 sq. ft. of retail. The development team also hired an artist to create an innovative windscreen to cover the full eastern side to shield an unsightly view while providing the amenity of art. Under an extremely compressed schedule, Gateway Village was delivered on time and significantly under budget and has since been recognized as a catalyst for new growth in Uptown Charlotte.
